What will we be planting?
We have a volunteer who has started tomatoes, peppers, squash and other plants for us in her green house (thank you, Lisa Burke!). In addition, we have purchased organic, heirloom varieties of the following: cucumbers, corn, beans, peas, carrots, cabbage, onions, eggplants, melons, watermelons, summer squash, among others. You are welcome to plant other varieties in addition to the ones we provide you, but we ask that you coordinate that with your plot leader. If you have seeds to donate, please contact us!
Are there specific hours to work in the garden?
The plot leader will work with his/her volunteer shareholders to schedule their weekly hours based on their schedules. Volunteer shareholders commit to spending 3-5 hours per week in the garden; however, some weeks will require less of a time commitment and others may require more. We will also hold some “all garden volunteer days” in hopes of us gathering as a community to work the garden – anyone and everyone will be welcome on those days. There are no specific hours – for some volunteers, early mornings will work best; for others, weekends will work best. Volunteer shareholders will need to be able to help out during the CSA pick-up times (TBD).
What if I can’t or don’t want to commit to being a volunteer shareholder but still want to help out?
We will have some “general work days” out at the garden for those individuals or families who can’t commit to the 3-5 hour requirement, so sign-up via the link to the left to receive email updates from the Grace Garden blog, as we will announce any group work days here on the blog. We also have other needs listed here, and we’re always open to new, creative ideas!
I am interested in being a shareholder. Would you tell me where we can pick up the produce and when?
The pick-up will be at Grace, but we are still working to determine what day would be best. Most likely, it will be Wednesday or Thursday during the week after the work day. We can’t do the pick-up during service times because of the traffic logistics involved, unfortunately.
